The African Democratic Congress (ADC) Presidential Campaign Council has challenged the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), urging Nigerians to collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and participate actively in the 2027 general election.
The council warned eligible voters against being discouraged by claims that the outcome of the election had already been determined, arguing that voter apathy could weaken their ability to influence the country’s political future.
In a statement issued on Friday, the ADC-PCC’s Director of Media and Publicity, Kola Ologbondiyan, described suggestions that election results would be predetermined as an attempt to discourage Nigerians from voting.
“Go and collect your PVC. Your voter’s card is your power and your guarantee that you will vote on January 16, 2027,” Ologbondiyan said.
He accused the APC of exploiting public concerns about electoral manipulation, citing economic hardship, hunger and insecurity as issues he said had undermined confidence in the ruling party.
Ologbondiyan insisted that Nigerians should not surrender their democratic rights because of fears that their votes might not count.
He also pointed to the amended Electoral Act, the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS), the Independent National Electoral Commission’s Result Viewing Portal (IReV) and growing public awareness as safeguards that could help protect the integrity of the electoral process.
“Every polling unit will be protected. Every vote will be counted, and every vote will count,” he said.
The campaign council called on traditional rulers, religious leaders, youth groups, women’s organisations and civil society groups to intensify voter education and encourage eligible Nigerians to collect their PVCs ahead of the election.
It also pledged that the ADC, under its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, would deploy polling agents across the country to monitor voting, safeguard ballots and challenge any alleged attempt to undermine the electoral process.
The council maintained that Nigerians should rely on lawful democratic participation rather than lose faith in the electoral system.
The 2027 general election is expected to see the APC face challenges from opposition parties seeking to persuade voters to support alternative political leadership.
With preparations gathering pace, the ADC has made voter mobilisation and election monitoring central to its campaign, insisting that the credibility of the polls will depend on the participation of voters and the protection of their choices at the ballot box.
