At least 20 people have been killed in a multi-vehicle road crash along the Hawan Kibo-Jos route in Plateau State, Nigeria.

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) said the crash occurred at about 3:32pm on Friday, shortly after Sopp Water Falls.

Osondu Ohaeri, the FRSC Corps Public Education Officer, confirmed the incident in a statement, saying several vehicles were involved in the collision.

The cause of the crash was not immediately disclosed.

Emergency responders were deployed to the scene, while the authorities continued efforts to manage the aftermath of the accident.

Road crashes remain a major cause of deaths on Nigerian highways, with the FRSC regularly urging motorists to observe speed limits, avoid dangerous overtaking and remain vigilant while driving.
