First Lady Oluremi Tinubu has called on Nigerians to prioritize love over division, peace over conflict, and hope over despair as the nation commemorates its 66th Independence anniversary.

In her message ahead of the October 1 celebration, the First Lady encouraged citizens to promote tolerance, constructive dialogue, and national unity, emphasizing that Nigeria’s diversity remains one of its greatest assets.

Reflecting on the country’s history, Mrs. Tinubu noted that Nigeria’s journey since independence in 1960 has been defined by resilience, sacrifice, and a shared determination to overcome obstacles.

“Since gaining independence in 1960, we have overcome various challenges, embraced change, and continued to build a stronger and more prosperous nation,” she said.

She stressed the importance of sustaining values of unity and patriotism, arguing that the nation’s diversity must be nurtured through mutual understanding and peaceful coexistence.

Drawing inspiration from the American civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr., the First Lady reminded citizens that “love is the most durable power in the world,” urging them to anchor their efforts to build the “Nigeria of their dreams” in love and collective optimism.

In concluding her address, Mrs. Tinubu offered prayers for the nation, seeking divine protection for its citizens, strength for national unity, and wisdom for those in leadership. She extended her congratulations to all Nigerians, expressing confidence in the country’s trajectory toward greater peace and progress.
