Former chairman of the Northern Elders Forum, Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, has expressed concern that the All Progressives Congress (APC) could lose the 2027 general election and refuse to accept the outcome.

Baba-Ahmed said Nigerians were increasingly aware of their political rights and the power of their votes. He insisted that the country’s future must not be decided against the will of the people.

He said voters’ choices must be respected in 2027, adding that no government was bigger than the people it served.

Baba-Ahmed, who also serves as national chairman of the Peoples Redemption Party, has previously worked as a special adviser on political matters.

His remarks come amid concerns about the conduct of the 2027 elections and whether political parties will accept results that do not favour them. He said voters’ wishes must take precedence over the interests of any party and warned against attempts to impose an outcome that did not reflect the choices made at the ballot box.

He also emphasised the need to protect Nigeria’s democratic process, saying the public’s decision should remain central to determining who governs the country.

His comments add to the debate about electoral transparency, public confidence and political parties’ responsibility to respect election results.
