Akume pledges federal support for Kogi East development during visit by traditional chiefs

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Sen. George Akume, has reiterated the Federal Government’s commitment to addressing the developmental challenges facing the Kogi East senatorial district.

Akume gave the assurance on [Day of the week] in Abuja while receiving a delegation of traditional chiefs from Kogi East, led by Dr. Haruna Achile Madisca, during a courtesy visit.

The delegation utilized the meeting to brief the SGF on the urgent needs of their constituents and to advocate for increased federal intervention in the region. Among the primary concerns presented were the progression of the Ajaokuta–Otukpo–Onne Railway project, specifically the request for the rail line to span the River Niger at Itobe, and the rehabilitation of critical federal roads throughout Kogi East.

Furthermore, the traditional rulers urged the Federal Government to increase the representation of the Igala people and the broader Kogi East community in key federal appointments.

In his address to the delegation, Akume acknowledged the validity of the concerns raised. He assured the chiefs that the Federal Government is dedicated to fostering development in the region and expressed optimism that tangible progress would be seen in Kogi East in the near future.

The visit highlighted the vital role of constructive engagement between traditional institutions and the Federal Government in advancing the socio-economic welfare of local communities.
