The House of Representatives has approved an extension of the implementation period for the capital component of Nigeria’s 2025 Appropriation Act, moving the deadline from September 30 to December 31, 2026.
The decision was taken during Tuesday’s plenary in Abuja, following consideration of an amendment bill seeking to extend the implementation period. The move gives federal ministries, departments and agencies additional time to execute outstanding capital projects and utilise funds provided under the 2025 budget.
The extension marks the fourth time the implementation period for the 2025 capital budget has been extended. The Senate had previously approved an extension to September 30, 2026.
Lawmakers said the latest extension is intended, among other things, to prevent ongoing capital projects from being abandoned because of funding and implementation delays.
The development means government agencies now have until December 31, 2026, to complete the implementation of capital allocations under the 2025 budget framework.
