Nigeria’s Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, says he travelled to Italy to pray for Nigerians and seek divine intervention against insecurity, terrorism and banditry ravaging the country.
Akpabio made the remarks during a visit to the St Padre Pio Prayer Ground in St Giovanni Rotondo, Italy, where he said he and other Nigerians had gone to seek blessings for themselves, their families and the country.
“We came to offer prayers and get blessings from God for ourselves, families and our dear country that is currently being ravaged by banditry and terrorism,” the Senate President said in an interview with St Padre Pio TV/Radio.
Akpabio said he was hopeful that the prayers would contribute to the wellbeing of Nigeria, describing the prayer ground as a holy site where he had gone to present his intentions.
He also prayed for peaceful conduct of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections, amid concerns over insecurity and political tensions ahead of the polls.
The Senate President disclosed that the visit was his 10th to the prayer ground, adding that he returned to express gratitude for what he described as the recovery of his wife, Unoma, following a prolonged period of serious illness.
Akpabio’s visit comes as insecurity, including terrorism, banditry and kidnapping, remains a major concern across several parts of Nigeria. He has previously called on Nigerians to sustain prayers for an end to violence and for the exposure of those behind attacks.
