Rotimi Amaechi, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) vice-presidential candidate, says the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, will restore electricity subsidies if elected president in 2027.
Mr Amaechi made the pledge on Thursday while visiting wards across Omuma Local Government Area of Rivers State as part of the party’s campaign activities.
Addressing residents, he said an Atiku-led administration would review some of the government’s existing policies, including the removal of electricity subsidies, which he said had increased the financial burden on Nigerians.
Mr Amaechi urged residents to support the ADC and its presidential candidate, presenting the party as an alternative to the current administration.
He said the party’s proposed policies would focus on easing the hardship faced by Nigerians and improving access to essential services, including electricity.
The former Rivers State governor also used the ward visits to deliver Mr Atiku’s campaign message and engage directly with voters ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The electricity subsidy has become a major political and economic issue in Nigeria, with successive governments facing pressure over rising electricity tariffs and the cost of providing power to consumers.
