Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike has told Senator Ireti Kingibe that he is not prepared to work with her, saying her frequent television appearances would not change his position.
Mr Wike made the remarks on Tuesday during a press conference in Abuja, where he addressed concerns over recent flooding in parts of the nation’s capital.
The minister, who appeared critical of the senator’s public comments on issues affecting the FCT, said appearing on television would not influence his decision to work with her.
“I am not ready to work with you. All these television appearances will not make me work with you,” Mr Wike said.
Senator Kingibe, who represents the Federal Capital Territory in the National Assembly, has previously criticised aspects of the administration of the FCT, including its handling of issues affecting residents.
The relationship between the minister and the senator has been marked by public disagreements, with both officials frequently expressing differing views on the administration and development of the capital.
Mr Wike’s latest comments come amid renewed public debate over flooding in Abuja following heavy rainfall, with several areas affected and concerns raised about drainage, development and environmental management.
The minister used the press conference to respond to criticism of the FCT administration and discuss measures being taken to address flooding and other challenges facing residents.
The disagreement between the two officials is likely to attract further attention as concerns over governance and development in the FCT continue to dominate public discussion.
