President Bola Ahmed Tinubu eats only once a day and often walks to his office, according to the Executive Chairman of the Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS), Zacch Adedeji.

Mr Adedeji said the president only uses a vehicle when travelling to the airport, portraying Mr Tinubu as a leader who maintains a modest personal lifestyle despite occupying Nigeria’s highest political office.

“President Tinubu eats once a day and treks to his office. He only uses a vehicle when travelling to the airport,” Mr Adedeji said.

The NRS chairman made the remark while speaking about the president’s personal habits and approach to public service.

The claim has drawn attention amid ongoing public debate over the lifestyle of political office holders and the cost of governance in Nigeria.

President Tinubu, who assumed office in May 2023, has introduced a number of economic reforms, including changes to the tax system, fuel subsidy policy and foreign exchange regime, as his administration seeks to increase government revenue and stabilise the economy.

Mr Adedeji’s comments are likely to generate further discussion about the president’s personal conduct and the sacrifices expected of public officials at a time when many Nigerians are facing economic pressures.

The Nigerian government has repeatedly urged citizens to support its reforms, arguing that the measures are intended to strengthen public finances and create the conditions for long-term economic growth.
