Residents of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have been urged to remain calm after an earth tremor was reported in parts of Abuja on Tuesday, with the Federal Government assuring the public that there is no immediate threat.
The Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dele Alake, said preliminary assessments indicate that the tremor poses no significant danger to residents or infrastructure, urging people to avoid panic while experts continue to monitor the situation.
According to the minister, the Nigerian Geological Survey Agency (NGSA) is closely tracking seismic activity through its monitoring stations and will provide timely updates if there are any changes.
The reassurance follows reports of mild ground vibrations in some parts of the nation’s capital, which sparked concern among residents and prompted calls for official clarification.
Authorities said the tremor is being scientifically assessed, stressing that there is currently no evidence of any imminent risk. They also advised residents to rely on verified information from government agencies and avoid spreading unconfirmed reports capable of causing unnecessary anxiety.
The Federal Government reiterated its commitment to safeguarding lives and property, assuring Nigerians that the country’s seismic monitoring systems remain active and that experts are on alert to respond to any developments.
