The Allied People’s Movement (APM) has accused President Bola Tinubu’s administration of targeting Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde out of fear over his growing political influence ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the party claimed that recent criticisms and actions directed at Makinde by the Federal Government reflected what it described as increasing anxiety within the ruling establishment over the governor’s popularity and national appeal.
The APM alleged that Makinde, its presidential candidate for the 2027 election, had emerged as a formidable political figure whose leadership style and public acceptance were attracting support across the country.
According to the party, the Federal Government’s alleged attacks were politically motivated and aimed at weakening Makinde’s reputation before the next general election.
“The sustained campaign against Governor Seyi Makinde is a clear indication that President Bola Tinubu and his allies are becoming increasingly uneasy about the governor’s growing acceptance among Nigerians,” the statement said.
The party maintained that no amount of political pressure or intimidation would deter its presidential candidate from pursuing his vision for the country, insisting that Makinde remained focused on governance and national development.
The Presidency has yet to respond to the allegations.
The exchange comes as political parties and key figures begin early positioning ahead of the 2027 presidential race, despite the election being more than a year away.
