Former Lagos State Governor and ex-Minister of Works, Babatunde Fashola, has dismissed speculation linking him with a bid for Nigeria’s presidency, saying he is content with being “president at home.”
Speaking while responding to questions about his political future, Fashola downplayed suggestions that he could join the race for the country’s highest office ahead of the 2027 general election.
The former minister remarked that he already holds the position of “president” within his household, indicating that he has no immediate ambition to seek the presidency.
His comments come amid growing political manoeuvring and increasing speculation over potential contenders for the 2027 presidential election, with several prominent figures being tipped for the race.
Although Fashola did not explicitly rule out any future political involvement, his remarks appeared aimed at cooling widespread rumours surrounding his possible presidential ambition.
A senior figure in the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Fashola served as Governor of Lagos State from 2007 to 2015 before joining the federal cabinet, where he oversaw the Ministries of Power, Works and Housing, and later Works.
His latest comments are expected to fuel further debate over the evolving political landscape as parties and key stakeholders gradually position themselves ahead of the next electoral cycle.
