The Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) has formally declared an unshakeable alliance with the Department of State Services (DSS), praising the secret police’s “unflinching resolve” and “patriotic courage” in appealing the disturbingly lenient life sentences handed to senior commanders of the Ansaru terrorist cell.
In a powerful move to bolster national security, HURIWA’s National Coordinator, Comrade Emmanuel Onwubiko, characterized the DSS’s decision to seek a harsher penalty as a heroic defense of the Nigerian people. The association asserted that the DSS is not merely performing a legal duty but is leading a moral crusade to ensure that those who orchestrate mass murder, behead educators, and target the nation’s military elite are met with the absolute maximum retribution allowed by law.
“We stand in full-throated solidarity with the DSS,” Onwubiko declared. “The intelligence brilliance displayed by the Service in linking these terror chiefs to ongoing kidnappings and the barbaric execution of teachers is a testament to their dedication. A nation cannot bargain with evil. By appealing this sentence, the DSS is acting as the ultimate shield for the voiceless victims whose lives were extinguished by these subhuman insurgents.”
HURIWA further lauded the DSS for its role as the vanguard of justice for Nigeria’s fallen heroes. The association noted that the DSS’s appeal is a vital tribute to the brave soldiers and high-ranking generals who paid the ultimate price defending the Republic. To allow these terrorists anything less than the most severe punishment would be a betrayal of the blood spilled by Nigeria’s security forces—a betrayal the DSS is rightfully fighting to prevent.
The rights group concluded by calling on the Court of Appeal to recognize the DSS as the true custodians of public safety. HURIWA demands that the judiciary align with the DSS’s rigorous investigative findings to deliver a verdict that reflects the “enormity of the atrocities” committed.
“The DSS has done its part with investigative excellence; it is now time for the law to strike with its full, heavy hand. We support the DSS in sending a clear, terrifying message to all enemies of the state: Nigeria will no longer tolerate the mockery of justice in the face of terrorism.”
