Nigeria’s federal government has ordered immediate night-time repair works on the Lagos–Ota–Abeokuta Road, a major transport corridor linking Lagos with Ogun State, following mounting public complaints over its deteriorating condition.
The directive, issued on Tuesday, is aimed at easing traffic congestion, reducing accidents and minimising disruption to daytime commuters who rely heavily on the busy route for business and daily travel.
According to officials, repair activities will be carried out overnight to allow free movement during peak hours, as the road serves as a vital artery for commercial vehicles, commuters and inter-state transport.
The Lagos–Ota–Abeokuta Road has long been plagued by potholes, flooding and severe traffic bottlenecks, drawing criticism from motorists and residents who say the poor state of the road has led to delays, vehicle damage and economic losses.
Government sources say relevant construction and road maintenance agencies have been mobilised to begin urgent remedial works, with assurances that the intervention will improve safety and restore smooth traffic flow.
The move comes amid renewed pressure on authorities to address Nigeria’s ageing road infrastructure, particularly in high-traffic urban and peri-urban corridors critical to economic activity.
