Several senior commanders of the ISWAP armed group have surrendered to troops of Operation HADIN KAI following sustained military offensives across Nigeria’s North-East, the military has announced.
The latest defections come amid an intensified campaign by security forces aimed at dismantling insurgent enclaves, disrupting leadership structures, and restricting the group’s operational capacity.
Military authorities say the sustained pressure has continued to weaken the group’s hold in parts of the region, prompting an increasing number of fighters and key leaders to lay down their arms.
The development is being viewed as another significant setback for ISWAP as Nigerian troops maintain momentum in ongoing counterinsurgency operations.
