Nigeria’s Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has rejected allegations that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is steering the country towards a one-party system, instead pointing to divisions within opposition ranks.
Responding to claims that the APC is attempting to dominate Nigeria’s political landscape, Wike questioned the role of the ruling party in recent defections from the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
“I heard Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso have left the ADC. Is it the ruling party that made them leave?” Wike said.
He argued that internal instability, rather than external pressure, is responsible for challenges facing opposition parties. “When the ADC soon collapses, will you still blame the ruling party? Were they the ones who sponsored Obi and Kwankwaso to leave?” he added.
Wike’s remarks highlight ongoing tensions in Nigeria’s political space, as debates intensify over party dominance, opposition unity, and the balance of power ahead of future elections.
