Nigeria has expanded its international aviation footprint as the Victor Attah International Airport in Uyo commenced its first-ever international flight operations.
On Saturday, Nigeria’s Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, joined Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno to inaugurate the historic flight, marking a significant milestone for the state’s connectivity and economic ambitions.
According to a statement issued by Tunde Moshood, special adviser on media and communications to the minister, the inaugural international service departed Uyo for the Kotoka International Airport in Accra.
The launch positions Uyo as a new gateway for regional travel and trade, with officials highlighting its potential to boost tourism, investment and cross-border economic activity.
Authorities say the move is part of broader efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s aviation sector and decentralise international air travel beyond traditional hubs.
