A fresh faction has emerged within the African Democratic Congress (ADC), rejecting the authority of the coalition led by former Senate President David Mark while also distancing itself from the faction headed by Nafiu Bala.

According to Africa Independent Television (AIT), the dissenting group—led by Don Norman Obinna—claims to be the legitimate National Executive Committee (NEC) of the party. The faction announced that it has stepped in to manage the party’s affairs ahead of the next national convention.

Speaking at a briefing in Abuja on Tuesday, the group argued that the tenure of Ralph Nwosu—who had handed over the party to the David Mark-led coalition—expired in August 2022. The faction further noted that Nwosu has since faced a series of litigations due to his failure to step down.

The group also clarified the status of Nafiu Bala, stating that he “never held the position of National Vice Chairman.” In addition, it affirmed that former ADC presidential candidate Dumebi Kachikwu “is still a member of ADC.”

The faction further disclosed that new interim leaders have been appointed to oversee party activities, ensuring continuity until the national convention is held.

These developments come amid an ongoing leadership crisis within the ADC, which has seen rival factions vying for control of the party. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) recently withdrew its recognition of the party’s leadership under former Senate President David Mark.
