A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) aligned with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has dismissed claims that it intends to back President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.
The faction’s National Publicity Secretary, Jungudo Mohammed, stated on Monday during an interview on Channels Television’s Morning Brief that the PDP would field its own presidential candidate.
“We are not supporting President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the 2027 general election. We will do everything to field our own candidate,” Mohammed said.
He urged Nigerians to give the party time ahead of its primaries, adding that speculation about the faction supporting the All Progressives Congress (APC) would eventually fade.
“All these rumours about us supporting the APC or being an appendage of the APC will come to pass. Time will take care of all these rumours and propaganda,” he said. “It is aimed at either discrediting the PDP or discrediting the Honourable Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike.”
The denial comes against the backdrop of Wike’s repeated expressions of support for Tinubu’s re-election.
In early March 2026, Wike said during a media briefing in Abuja that he would work for the President’s second term, adding that his support would cut across party lines for candidates aligned with Tinubu.
