Brigadier General Ismaila Sule has formally assumed office as the 17th Director of Recruitment, pledging to deepen reforms, tighten standards and strengthen the delivery of credible, merit-based recruits into the Nigerian Army.
The handover ceremony, held at the Directorate of Recruitment headquarters in Abuja, marked the end of Brigadier General Chibueze Ogbuabo’s tenure and the beginning of a new leadership chapter for the Directorate.
In his inaugural address, Brigadier General Sule vowed to consolidate the gains recorded under his predecessor, sustain ongoing reforms and enhance operational efficiency across the recruitment process. He charged officers and soldiers to remain disciplined and resolute in upholding the highest professional standards, in line with the Command Philosophy of the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu.

“I am committed to building on the progress already achieved and ensuring that recruitment into the Nigerian Army remains transparent, credible and strictly merit-based,” Sule said, while urging personnel to demonstrate unwavering integrity and professionalism in carrying out their duties.
The new Director also expressed deep appreciation to the Chief of Army Staff for the confidence reposed in him, and commended Brigadier General Ogbuabo for what he described as impactful and dedicated leadership.
In his valedictory remarks, Ogbuabo congratulated his successor and appealed to all personnel to give him maximum cooperation. He stressed the importance of sustained professionalism and commitment in advancing the Directorate’s critical role in manpower development for the Army.
The ceremony featured the formal signing of handover notes, the symbolic lowering and hoisting of the Directorate’s flag, and a group photograph to mark the transition.
The event was coordinated by Captain Abubakar Umar Hammanga, Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, Directorate of Recruitment.
