Former presidential aspirant and outspoken politician, Gudaji Kazaure, has expressed deep disappointment with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, claiming he played a decisive role in securing the former Lagos governor’s uncontested path during the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential race.
Kazaure alleged that he personally intervened to prevent former President Muhammadu Buhari from opposing Tinubu’s candidacy, insisting that his efforts were pivotal to the political outcome that eventually produced the current president.
“I am disappointed with Tinubu because I am the reason why President Buhari did not fight Tinubu’s candidacy,” Kazaure said. “I spoke with him for over 40 minutes and convinced him. He sent me to Tinubu and told me to assure him of his support.”
According to Kazaure, the intervention helped to stabilise internal party dynamics at a critical moment, easing concerns of a potential power struggle within the ruling party ahead of the 2023 general election.
While he did not provide further details on the nature of his disappointment, his remarks suggest growing discontent among some political figures who claim to have backed Tinubu’s rise to the presidency but now feel sidelined.
The Presidency has not responded to Kazaure’s claims as of the time of filing this report. However, the comments are likely to fuel renewed debate over behind-the-scenes negotiations and alliances that shaped the APC’s presidential transition.
Kazaure, known for his blunt political interventions, has in recent years positioned himself as a vocal critic of both party leadership and government policies, often courting controversy with his public statements.
