The Governor of Edo State has raised alarm over what he describes as a deliberate and coordinated surge in abductions across the country, alleging that the attacks form part of a broader plot aimed at undermining President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
Speaking during a media briefing, the governor condemned the recent spike in kidnappings, calling it “deeply suspicious” and “far from random.” He argued that the pattern of attacks suggests a calculated attempt to destabilise the nation and discredit the Federal Government.
He urged security agencies to intensify intelligence-led operations to uncover those behind the incidents and restore public confidence. “These are not mere acts of criminality; they appear to be orchestrated efforts to create fear, weaken governance, and sabotage national progress,” he said.
The governor reaffirmed his support for President Tinubu’s security reforms, noting that collaboration between state and federal authorities is crucial to counter emerging threats. He also appealed to residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities promptly.
He emphasised that the state government is strengthening local security architecture in partnership with community leaders, traditional institutions, and federal operatives to ensure swift action against criminal networks.
The governor concluded by calling for unity and caution, stressing that national security “must not become a pawn in political games” as the country works to overcome rising insecurity.
