Liverpool’s Under-18 team endured a tough outing on Saturday, falling 6–3 to Nottingham Forest in the U18 Premier League, but young Nigerian talents Joshua Abe and Joshua Sonni-Lambie were among the bright sparks for the Reds.
The match produced plenty of action and attacking flair, with both sides finding the net twice before the break. Nottingham Forest went ahead through Riko Robinson and Ethan Broomes, while Liverpool’s Abe and Alvin Ayman responded swiftly to level matters before halftime.
Abe, who continues to impress as one of Liverpool’s most promising schoolboys, struck in the 40th minute. The youngster reacted quickest at the back post to convert a superb cross from La’More Forrester, restoring parity for the hosts.
However, Nottingham Forest took full control after the interval. Scott Hamilton, Fuad Smith, and Robinson—who completed a hat-trick—were all on target to hand the visitors a commanding lead.
Liverpool managed a late consolation through Sonni-Lambie, who showed composure in front of goal to finish neatly in the 84th minute after a well-timed assist from Abe.
Sonni-Lambie’s form this season has been nothing short of remarkable, with 13 goal contributions—10 goals and three assists—in 15 appearances across all competitions. Abe, on the other hand, has registered four direct goal involvements in just five league games, an impressive feat for a player still in school.
