Former Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Gwabin Musa (retired), has reaffirmed his unshakable patriotism and lifelong commitment to Nigeria, declaring that although he is stepping down from active military service, his devotion to the nation remains unwavering.
In an emotional statement marking his retirement, General Musa said:
“I might be retiring from active military service today, but I’m by no means retiring from my love for our dear country, Nigeria. I remain a soldier at heart and a patriot ever loyal to the constitution and sovereignty of our great nation.”
Reflecting on his distinguished career, the decorated officer expressed deep gratitude for the opportunity to serve Nigeria at the highest level of military leadership. He noted that his years in uniform were defined by sacrifice, discipline, and a steadfast belief in the unity and progress of the country.
General Musa emphasised that retirement does not mark the end of service, but rather a transition into a new phase of national contribution. He pledged to continue supporting efforts aimed at promoting peace, security, and good governance, particularly by mentoring younger officers and advocating for the welfare of veterans.
He paid tribute to the men and women of the Armed Forces for their courage and professionalism, describing them as “the backbone of Nigeria’s stability and sovereignty.” He also called on citizens to continue showing solidarity with the military, whose sacrifices, he said, “make it possible for democracy and development to thrive.”
The retired General, who has been honoured with the national award of Officer of the Order of the Federal Republic (OFR), leaves behind a legacy of integrity, strategic leadership, and deep patriotism.
As he transitions to civilian life, General Musa reiterated that his heart remains with the Armed Forces and the nation he has served with distinction, saying:
“The uniform may come off, but the duty to Nigeria never ends.”
