Sokoto State Governor, Ahmed Aliyu, has unveiled a plan to officially place graveyard attendants on the state government payroll. This new initiative is part of a broader effort to improve Islamic education and community development, particularly in rural areas.

In a statement released by his Director of Media, Abubakar Bawa, Aliyu revealed that the initiative would be officially launched during the unveiling of the Kirare village Jumu’at Mosque and a block of classrooms in Goronyo Local Government Area. The Governor emphasized that this move would honor the invaluable services of graveyard attendants and support the state’s overall commitment to enhancing the quality of education.

“The graveyard attendants have long played a pivotal role in our communities. This decision is meant to acknowledge their efforts and provide them with the recognition they deserve,” Aliyu said. “Their inclusion on the payroll will ensure that they can continue their vital work while also receiving the necessary government support.”

In addition to this initiative, Aliyu also announced the construction of new Islamiyya schools and the renovation of existing ones. He stressed that the education of young people was crucial in shaping a responsible and morally sound society.

“Islamiyya schools are instrumental in instilling strong moral values in children, helping them grow into responsible members of society,” the Governor added. “For us to correct the misconceptions some non-Muslims have about Islam, we must educate our people on the true teachings of the religion.”

The Governor’s commitment to Islamic education is reflected in his decision to award contracts for the renovation of 65 mosques across Sokoto State. The Kirare Jumu’at Mosque, which was officially commissioned, is the 16th of these projects. Aliyu urged the benefiting communities to take responsibility for the upkeep and maintenance of the facilities to ensure their long-term sustainability.

The Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, praised the Governor for his efforts to revamp religious infrastructure and emphasized the importance of continued prayers for peace and security in the state and country.

In his remarks, the Minister of State for Works, Bello Goronyo, commended the Governor’s people-centric approach. He noted the ongoing transformation in Sokoto, particularly in the areas of road networks, agriculture, water supply, and security.

The event was graced by prominent figures, including APC leader and former governor Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, former governor Malam Yahaya, Deputy Governor Idris Muhammed Gobir, and Speaker of the State House of Assembly Tukur Bala Bodinga, along with several members of the National Assembly, state lawmakers, and other government officials.
