The nearly two-year political crisis in Rivers State shows no sign of abating, with the African Democratic Congress (ADC) Chairman for the state, Mr Leader Sampson, warning it could escalate further despite recent reconciliation efforts between suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara and Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike.

Speaking to Daily Post Nigeria, Sampson described attempts at reconciliation as superficial. “From what we have seen, there was no true reconciliation. It’s just one man having his way,” he said, referring to the power tussle within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Sampson dismissed claims of peace in Rivers State as political theatre orchestrated for personal gains by certain individuals.

“There has never been any crisis in Rivers State. Those things you saw were orchestrated by individuals for their own political gains. They decided to make the entire state ungovernable,” he stated.

He criticised the Sole Administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas, appointed during the six-month state of emergency declared by President Bola Tinubu, demanding accountability for state finances. “Ibas needs to tell Nigerians what he did with Rivers State people’s money. He needs to account for the projects executed, how much came from the internally generated revenue, and federal allocations.”

The ADC chair also condemned the recently held Local Government elections, describing them as “illegal” and reiterated the party’s ambitions to take over the state in the 2027 general elections.

Sampson urged citizens and stakeholders not to be deceived by the superficial calm, emphasizing that meaningful peace and stability require genuine reconciliation and accountable governance.
