Dele Momodu, a senior member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has called on Dumebi Kachikwu, the party’s 2023 presidential candidate, to avoid actions that could harm the ADC. Speaking on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief, Momodu described Kachikwu as “my very dear brother” and urged him not to destroy the party.

Momodu said, “Being a former presidential candidate does not make you the sole owner of a party,” recalling his own experience as a presidential candidate in 2011 with the National Conscience Party. He emphasized that even prominent politicians like Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso and Atiku Abubakar do not claim ownership of their parties.

He cautioned against the growing sense of entitlement among Nigerian politicians who see themselves as founders and sole owners, pointing out that some founders of the PDP have lost control of their party over time.

With respect to Kachikwu, Momodu said: “Don’t let anybody use your head to break coconut. Don’t kill this beautiful baby (ADC). It’s a new baby. And you should be happy that some people are taking your party beyond where it was.”

Momodu’s plea comes amid internal tensions within the ADC as the party gears up for the 2027 general elections, highlighting the challenges opposition parties face in maintaining unity and focus.
