The All Progressives Congress (APC) has launched a blistering attack on former Sokoto State Governor, Senator Aminu Tambuwal, accusing him and other opposition figures of peddling baseless claims and failing woefully to provide leadership.
In a strongly worded statement on Sunday, APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, dismissed Tambuwal’s allegation that President Bola Tinubu and the ruling party were plotting to destabilise opposition groups ahead of the 2027 elections.
“It is perplexing that these opposition leaders, who have occupied some of the highest political offices in our country, have failed horridly and disgracefully to provide leadership, purpose, direction and vitality to their parties,” Morka declared.
Tambuwal’s Claims
During a Channels Television interview on Friday, Tambuwal accused the APC of orchestrating moves to weaken opposition parties, insisting that the “signs are very clear.” He described the push to unseat President Tinubu in 2027 as a “national consensus,” not a regional agenda, stressing that unity among PDP, Labour Party, and other key players would be crucial.
Tambuwal warned that multiple heavyweight presidential bids from Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, Goodluck Jonathan, or Rabiu Kwankwaso could splinter the opposition and hand Tinubu victory on a platter.
APC’s Response
Morka dismissed the senator’s remarks as “empty political theatre,” insisting that opposition leaders themselves were to blame for their parties’ weakness. He accused Tambuwal, Atiku, Peter Obi, and others of “squandering opportunities” to provide credible alternatives.
“Without effective leadership, opposition parties cannot play their constitutional role of holding government accountable or offering Nigerians meaningful policy choices,” Morka said.
He also pointed to the EFCC’s ongoing probe into Tambuwal over alleged cash withdrawals of ₦189 billion, accusing him of “hiding behind political persecution” to evade accountability. “No opposition figure enjoys immunity from the law. Emotional blackmail will not shield anyone from scrutiny,” Morka added.
‘Cracks and Chaos’ in Opposition Ranks
The APC spokesman ridiculed opposition efforts to form a coalition, describing them as “crippled by arrogance, desperation, and infighting.” He highlighted the recent crisis in the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as evidence of a fragile and collapsing alliance.
“The opposition remains rudderless at sea, haemorrhaging members by the day, with no coherent vision or strategy,” Morka declared.
2027 and Beyond
Confident of retaining power, the APC said Nigerians would reject what it called a fractured and uninspiring opposition. “With nothing to offer, these leaders have turned into doomsday prophets, predicting outcomes in 2027 that only foreshadow their inevitable defeat,” the statement said.
Morka concluded by reaffirming Tinubu’s focus on reforms, saying the administration was “rebuilding the neglected foundations of the economy and repositioning Nigeria for sustainable growth.”
A Long-Running Feud
Tambuwal’s clash with the APC is the latest chapter in a rivalry dating back to 2018, when he defected from the ruling party to the PDP, branding the APC a “sanctuary for the corrupt.” Tinubu dismissed the move as naked ambition.
Since then, Tambuwal has been one of the ruling party’s fiercest critics, often sparking heated rebuttals from APC chieftains. His latest allegations have once again reignited the political war of words.
