Senator Professor Anthony Ani, representing Ebonyi South Senatorial Zone, has made a strong appeal for peace between the Oso Edda community in Edda Local Government Area and Amasiri in Afikpo Local Government Area. The two communities have been embroiled in a long-standing conflict over the ownership of farmland along their shared boundary.

Addressing constituents at a town hall meeting in his hometown of Onicha Igboeze, Ani condemned the violence that has erupted, particularly following the recent killing of a farmer, allegedly connected to the dispute. He urged the citizens to pursue reconciliation, reminding them of the strong bond that once united the two communities.

“I attended Government College Owutu and remember clearly the peace and brotherly love that existed between Edda people and Amasiri. It is time for that spirit to return,” Senator Ani stated. “Edda and Amasiri are one people with much in common.”

In his remarks, the Senator praised the efforts of Ebonyi State Governor Francis Nwaifuru, who has been actively working towards resolving the conflict. He described the dispute as a significant setback to the region’s peace and progress, stressing the importance of unity for the collective good of Ebonyi South.

Senator Ani also took the opportunity to highlight his commitment to the welfare of his constituents, particularly local farmers and youth. He shared that significant resources, including fertilisers and motorcycles, have been distributed throughout the senatorial zone to support economic development. “Since assuming office, I have worked relentlessly to uplift Ebonyi South. More empowerment initiatives are underway,” Ani added.

Furthermore, the Senator revealed that efforts are ongoing to facilitate federal employment opportunities for constituents, with a promise of transparency regarding these initiatives.

Expressing his gratitude, Senator Ani thanked Governor Nwaifuru, Minister of Works Chief David Umahi, and the people of Ebonyi South for their continued support, pledging to keep working effectively for the betterment of the zone.
