A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has warned that the party’s national convention in November will be “invalid” unless their demands are met.
The group, operating under the banner of “Eminent Leaders and Concerned Stakeholders of the PDP,” held a closed-door meeting on Monday with party leaders, including National Secretary Sam Anyanwu. Following the meeting, former Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, read a communiqué outlining the group’s resolutions.

According to the communiqué, the group insists that while they accept the party’s zoning arrangements, there must be no “micro-zoning” of positions to ensure peace and stability. They specifically demanded that the position of National Chairman remain in the North-Central geopolitical zone, in line with the party’s 2021 convention.
The stakeholders also called on the National Working Committee (NWC) to immediately conduct fresh, transparent congresses in Ebonyi and Anambra states, citing existing court judgments. They also demanded that the results of the South-South Congress in Calabar be upheld and that a local government congress be held in Ekiti State without delay.
The group cautioned that failure to implement these resolutions would disenfranchise legitimate members and render any national convention invalid. They stressed that the party must uphold fairness, justice, and the rule of law to remain a relevant opposition force.
“The PDP was built on the foundation of inclusivity, fairness, and justice,” the communiqué stated. “To reclaim its pride of place… the party must now rise above narrow interests and embrace collective responsibility.”
