On Saturday, the Kaduna State Police Command announced it has launched a full-scale investigation into an alleged shooting at a political gathering hosted by former governor Nasir El-Rufai. The command said the event, reportedly under the banner of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), did not have prior police notification.
According to a statement from DSP Mansir Hassan, the police spokesperson, organizers were warned but went ahead with the meeting. Preliminary findings suggest that “political gangsters and thugs attached to the former Governor” were involved in the shooting that disrupted public peace.
The police also stated that they contacted the ADC’s leadership, who denied any knowledge of the meeting and disassociated themselves from El-Rufai’s alleged event.
Hassan emphasized that no one, regardless of their status, is above the law and that anyone found responsible will face the consequences. He also issued a warning that event centers and hotels would be held accountable for hosting political gatherings that do not have prior notification to security agencies.
Due to the incident, the command has suspended all unauthorized political gatherings in the state until proper security protocols are in place. This measure is intended to maintain peace and public safety.
