Champion Breweries Plc has posted a profit after tax of N2.29 billion in the first half of 2025, marking a strong recovery from the N386.66 million loss reported during the same period in 2024. The performance reflects improved revenue generation, cost control, and a more stable operating environment, based on unaudited financial results released by the company.

The brewing firm saw its revenue surge by 67 per cent to N15.93 billion in the six months ending June 30, 2025, compared to N9.54 billion recorded in the corresponding period of 2024. The growth, attributed to strong market demand and enhanced production capacity, helped lift gross profit to N7.89 billion  a 111 per cent increase from N3.73 billion a year earlier.

“This turnaround signals a renewed operational strength and resilience within the company,” a senior official at Champion Breweries stated. “We are seeing the results of cost efficiency strategies and market-focused innovations introduced over the past year.”

While cost of sales rose by 38 per cent to N8.05 billion from N5.81 billion in the same period last year, the pace of growth was slower than revenue, contributing to the expanded gross margin. The brewery also achieved an operating profit of N3.86 billion, a staggering 552 per cent jump from N591.94 million in the first half of 2024.

Another major factor that contributed to the profit rebound was the absence of foreign exchange losses. Champion Breweries had recorded N910.74 million in FX losses in the first half of 2024, a burden that was eliminated in the current period. This, despite an increase in finance costs from N14.20 million to N543.70 million, still enabled the company to close with a total comprehensive income of N2.29 billion.

Finance income stood at N139.97 million, helping to cushion some of the debt service pressure.

The company’s earnings per share also saw significant improvement, turning from a negative 4.94 kobo in H1 2024 to a positive 25.57 kobo as of June 2025.

Champion Breweries’ balance sheet reflected this recovery, with total assets climbing to N25.95 billion by the end of June 2025 from N21.35 billion as of December 2024. Retained earnings also grew from N3.88 billion to N5.63 billion during the same period.

Founded in 1974 and based in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, Champion Breweries has weathered various cycles in Nigeria’s fast-moving consumer goods market. The company produces Champion Lager Beer and Champ Malta, among other beverages, and remains a key player in the South-South regional market.
