Former Kogi West Senator, Dino Melaye, has admitted that supporting the All Progressives Congress was one of the biggest mistakes of his political life.
Speaking on Friday during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Melaye said he now sees things more clearly and regrets backing a party he accused of wrecking the country.
“Once I was blind, now I can see,” Melaye said. “I regret it in totality. Just like you confess your sins in the Lord’s Prayer, I ask for forgiveness. Anyone who has moved with the devil or aligned with unholy tendencies should regret it.”
He blamed the APC government for plunging Nigeria into hunger, poverty and insecurity, claiming the hardship is now visible to everyone.
“You don’t need a prophet to explain what is happening in this country,” he said. “It’s visible even to the blind and audible to the deaf. The hunger in the land is shattered. People are dying of malnutrition in rural areas.”
He gave a dramatic example: “Just go to your village and announce that you want to share two bags of rice. If you’re not careful, people will get injured or worse in the struggle.”
Looking ahead to 2027, Melaye said the African Democratic Congress is working to build a strong, reliable platform to challenge and remove President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the polls.
“Especially those of us in the ADC, we need to create a stable platform,” he said. “I believe that platform will produce a candidate that will unseat President Bola Tinubu in 2027.”
Asked whether he would support former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Melaye declined to endorse anyone yet.
“I will not talk about any presidential candidate until the party is fully stabilised and we organise a transparently honest convention,” he said.
Still, he praised Atiku’s political outreach, describing it as part of a wider rescue mission.
“What Atiku is doing is rescuing this country, bringing together men of honour and valour to correct and palliate the satanic manifestation of the APC,” Melaye said.
