In a landmark move to bring prosperity to every corner of Nigeria, President Bola Tinubu has unveiled the Renewed Hope Ward Development Programme, a transformative grassroots initiative greenlit by the National Economic Council (NEC) during a high-powered session at the State House in Abuja on Thursday.
This ambitious program targets Nigeria’s 8,809 wards, aiming to empower at least 1,000 economically active individuals per ward with critical support to supercharge local manufacturing, boost businesses, and drive community wealth creation. Spearheaded by the Federal Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning, the initiative is set to fast-track economic growth, slash poverty, create jobs, and strengthen food security nationwide.
Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State, addressing journalists post-NEC meeting, hailed the President’s vision as a game-changer. “With Nigeria and its subnational governments earning more, this programme ensures that newfound wealth trickles down to the grassroots, creating real impact for every Nigerian,” he said. Uzodinma revealed plans for a collaborative committee, involving the Surveyor-General and state governments, to accelerate project rollout.
Echoing this optimism, Senator Abubakar Atiku Bagudu, Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, described the programme as a historic leap in Nigeria’s reform agenda. “After stabilizing the macroeconomy, we’re now drilling prosperity down to the lowest levels,” Bagudu declared. “By empowering 1,000 active individuals per ward, we’re igniting local production, fostering self-sustaining economies, and advancing social protection—fulfilling the constitutional mandate for shared prosperity.”
With its focus on inclusive growth and tangible results, the Renewed Hope Ward Development Programme signals a new era of economic empowerment, poised to reshape Nigeria’s grassroots landscape and deliver lasting benefits to millions.
