In a recent interview, the former president criticized Russian leader Vladimir Putin’s comments suggesting the replacement of Ukraine’s current leadership, particularly President Volodymyr Zelensky.
During an interview aired on Sunday, the former president expressed his disapproval of Putin’s remarks, stating, “If I feel we’re in the midst of a negotiation, you could say that I was very angry, pissed off, when Putin started getting into Zelenskyy’s credibility, because that’s not going in the right direction.” He further elaborated that “New leadership means you’re not gonna have a deal for a long time.”
The former president also issued a warning, suggesting potential tariffs on Russian oil if ceasefire negotiations fail. “If Russia and I are unable to make a deal on stopping the bloodshed in Ukraine, and if I think it was Russia’s fault — which it might not be — but if I think it was Russia’s fault, I am going to put secondary tariffs on oil, on all oil coming out of Russia,” he stated. He added that such tariffs would effectively prevent companies buying Russian oil from doing business in the United States, specifying a potential “25 percent tariff on all oil, a 25-to 50-point tariff on all oil.”
The former president indicated that these tariffs could be implemented within a month if a ceasefire agreement is not reached.
