Kano – The Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC) and the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP) have joined forces to enhance procurement efficiency within the Corporation. A specialized training workshop for executive staff and procurement officers was held in Kano with the theme “Developing Innovative Strategies for Effective Procurement and Financial Management.”
The workshop aimed to equip NDIC personnel with the knowledge and skills to navigate the evolving landscape of public procurement regulations while ensuring transparency, accountability, and value for money in all procurement activities.
Bello Hassan, NDIC’s Managing Director/Chief Executive, said the workshop aimed at ensuring efficiency, transparency and accountability, to enable the development of effective strategies in procurement processes enterprise-wide.
“We have identified the BPP as a critical stakeholder in our attempt towards
developing effective and efficient procurement capabilities, in realising the Corporation’s strategic thrust for performance driven culture, excellence and operational resilience, in line with its vision of becoming one of the best deposit insurers in the world.
“To achieve this culture, one of the resolutions reached at the 2023 Executive Procurement Retreat held in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, was continuous training which underscored the critical need for capacity building for all NDIC Officers involved in the value chain of procurement process.
“This workshop, therefore, aligns perfectly with that resolution, aims at equipping NDIC personnel with requisite knowledge and skills necessary to navigate the evolving landscape of Public Procurement practices, procedures and regulations in Nigeria,” he said.
NDIC Managing Director/Chief Executive Bello Hassan emphasized the importance of continuous training to foster a performance-driven culture within the organization. He highlighted the critical role of effective procurement in achieving the Corporation’s strategic objectives.
Dr. Adebowale Adedokun, Director General of BPP, stressed the need for innovative and dynamic procurement approaches, including the utilization of e-procurement platforms to streamline processes and enhance efficiency.
The workshop focused on various aspects of procurement, including:
-Compliance with the Public Procurement Act (PPA) 2007: Ensuring adherence to legal and regulatory frameworks.
-Competitive Bidding Processes: Implementing fair and transparent procedures for selecting service providers, particularly in the context of liquidating failed financial institutions.
-Innovative Procurement Strategies: Exploring new technologies and approaches to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
-Financial Management: Integrating procurement decisions with overall financial planning and management.
This collaborative effort between the NDIC and BPP signifies a commitment to improving public procurement standards in Nigeria and ensuring the effective and efficient operation of the country’s financial sector.
