The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has rescued 59 children suspected of being trafficked and arrested two suspects.
The children, aged between four and 12 years, were intercepted on January 6th by a police team along the Abuja-Kano route. The driver, Ali Ibrahim, and his assistant, Alhassan Ibrahim, both residents of Kano State, were arrested at the scene.
According to FCT Commissioner of Police, Tunji Disu, preliminary investigations revealed that the children, hailing from different families in Kano State, were allegedly being transported to Nasarawa State under the guise of receiving training.
“The suspects were transporting 59 male children without proper documentation or parental consent,” Commissioner Disu stated. “This incident has been classified as a case of suspected child abuse and trafficking.”
The police are working with the FCT Social Development Secretariat to reunite the children with their families and bring the suspects to justice.
Commissioner Disu reiterated the command’s commitment to protecting children from exploitation and abuse, urging parents and guardians to remain vigilant.
