Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has paid a private visit to former military president, General Ibrahim Babangida (retd.), at his hilltop residence in Minna, the Niger State capital.

The meeting, which was held behind closed doors, drew attention owing to the stature of both elder statesmen in Nigeria’s political history. Details of the discussions were not disclosed, but sources described the visit as a courtesy call between long-standing associates.

Obasanjo, who served as military head of state from 1976 to 1979 and later as a civilian president from 1999 to 2007, has maintained a long relationship with Babangida, who ruled Nigeria from 1985 to 1993. Both men remain influential voices on national issues and are frequently consulted on matters of governance, security and national unity.

Although no official statement was issued following the visit, the meeting has fuelled public interest, particularly amid ongoing political realignments and debates ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Observers note that such interactions among former leaders, even when described as private, often carry political and symbolic significance in Nigeria’s evolving democratic landscape.
