The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) and the Action Democratic Party (ADP) say they have met the deadline set by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to address the omission of some candidates from its published list for the 2027 elections.

The two opposition parties confirmed on Sunday that they had complied with the commission’s 24 October deadline for notifying it of candidates whose names were missing from the list.

NDC National Publicity Secretary Osa Director confirmed the development to Vanguard, saying the party had met the deadline.

“We did,” he said.

Similarly, ADP National Chairman Yabagi Yusuf Sani confirmed that his party had complied with the requirement.

“We did. Thanks a lot,” he told Vanguard.

The development follows concerns raised by several political parties after INEC published its list of candidates for the 2027 governorship and State House of Assembly elections.

The omissions affected candidates seeking elective offices in several states, prompting calls for the electoral commission to review the list and address the discrepancies.

INEC had set 24 October as the deadline for affected parties to notify it of candidates they believed had been wrongly excluded.

The deadline was based on Section 32(2) of the Electoral Act 2026, which provides a 14-day window for political parties to report alleged errors in the published list.

The commission has said its actions must comply with the law and relevant court decisions governing political party membership records and candidate nominations.

Although the NDC and ADP say they have met the deadline, it remains unclear from their confirmations whether the omitted candidates’ names have been restored to the official list.

The commission’s response will be crucial in determining the status of the affected candidates as political parties prepare for the 2027 elections.
