Former Kano State Governor and Senator, Ibrahim Shekarau, has called for Nigerians to focus on the credibility of future presidential candidates rather than their region of origin in the upcoming 2027 elections. Speaking on Channels TV’s Sunday Politics, Shekarau emphasized the need for all political parties to present strong candidates for Nigerians to choose from.

Shekarau also addressed the recent nationwide protests against bad governance, noting that it was a clear message to the President and Federal Government to reassess their policies. He called for a return to the basics and urged the government to address the economic challenges faced by the citizens.

“Our challenge is that all the parties should give Nigerians correct candidates so we have the best to choose from. But if you give us all evils, we will choose the best from the evils,” the former governor added.”

The protests, which began in August due to economic hardships following the removal of fuel subsidy and the floating of the naira, escalated into violence with widespread destruction of public and private properties. Shekarau highlighted the need for the government to listen to the grievances of the people and take necessary steps to improve the country’s situation.
