Gunmen, believed to be bandits, opened fire on the convoy of Zamfara State’s Chief of Staff, Alhaji Mouktar Lugga, around 6:15 p.m. Thursday along the Funtua–Gusau road.

Lugga was heading back to Gusau after an official trip when the shooters sprang from both sides of the highway near Kucheri village and sprayed bullets at his vehicle.

One round punched through the windshield and whizzed past the driver; another attacker tried to shoot point-blank, but his gun jammed.

The driver kept his foot down, broke through the ambush, and delivered Lugga and the two other passengers to safety. No one was hurt.
