Popular Nollywood actor and political commentator, Yul Edochie, has publicly thrown his weight behind the South-East producing Nigeria’s next president in 2027, a notable shift from his earlier support for the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

In a now-viral video posted on X (formerly Twitter), Edochie stated, “The next President of Nigeria should come from the South East. In fairness and equity. That’s just the truth. That’s how it supposed to be.”

His declaration has stirred conversation across political and social platforms, especially given his previous alignment with the current All Progressives Congress-led government.

Veteran entertainer and activist, Charly Boy, also known as Area Father, responded swiftly to Edochie’s new position. Quoting the actor’s video on X, he wrote, “Yul Edochie finally see’s the light. Thank God you don dey change lane.”

The endorsement comes amid growing calls for rotational leadership that reflects Nigeria’s diversity and fosters national unity. The South-East geopolitical zone has consistently advocated for a chance to lead the country, citing historical exclusion and the principles of federal character.

Peter Obi of the Labour Party, who hails from Anambra State in the South-East, remains one of the most prominent contenders ahead of the 2027 general election. Despite placing third in the 2023 polls behind President Tinubu and Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Obi has reaffirmed his intention to run again.
