Former Senator, Shehu Sani, has criticized ex-Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, for his recent comments on alleged nepotism at the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL).

Sani, who previously represented Kaduna Central in the National Assembly, took aim at El-Rufai, stating that the former governor should not be taken seriously as he did not speak out against nepotism when President Buhari, who is also his kinsman, was accused of it during his time in office.

Responding to El-Rufai’s remarks on social media, Sani called out those who remained silent during Buhari’s alleged nepotism, and criticized the marginalization of Southern Kaduna during El-Rufai’s tenure as governor.

“Let’s not make reference to the nepotism that marginalised Southern Kaduna for eight years. Kaduna was an apartheid state for eight years,” he said. According to Sani, anyone can talk or criticise President Tinubu on issues of alleged lopsided appointments or nepotism, but certainly not El-Rufai.

OBSERVERSTIMES recalled that the U.S.-based Nigerian journalism professor, Farooq Kperogi, accused former Governor Tinubu of governing Nigeria with a Lagos-centric mindset, similar to how former President Buhari allegedly favored northerners in the security sector during his administration. El-Rufai later shared Kperogi’s post, cautioning against using two wrongs to justify actions.
