The internal crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) deepened on Wednesday as the faction loyal to Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, lambasted the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, over his recent controversial media remarks.

In a scathing statement signed by the National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, the party described Wike’s latest media appearance as an “unsolicited display of political recklessness.” The PDP accused the Minister of using a publicly funded platform to attack respected Nigerians and throw “decency to the wind.”

Characterizing the Minister’s performance as “full of sound and fury, signifying nothing,” the party issued a formal apology to Nigerians for its past role in elevating Wike to high-ranking positions, including Governor and Minister.

“We regret offering a platform to a person whose conduct and utterances have become a national embarrassment,” the statement read. The party further encouraged individuals defamed by the Minister to seek legal redress, asserting that no one is above the law.

Addressing the leadership structure of the party, the PDP dismissed Wike’s claims regarding a “National Leader,” clarifying that such a position is not recognized by the party’s constitution. The statement suggested that Wike’s outbursts were fueled by his inability to dictate the party’s direction or influence the emergence of its presidential candidate.

Despite the friction, the PDP maintained that its administrative processes—including the sale of nomination forms and preparations for the national convention—remain on track and will proceed without interference.

The statement concluded by dismissing Wike’s threats as “misinformation,” vowing that the truth would ultimately prevail as the party moves toward its upcoming primaries.
