Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and a stalwart of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), today announced his withdrawal from all previously reached agreements within the party, citing a consistent pattern of dishonesty and betrayal by key stakeholders. Wike, who has been a prominent figure in the PDP since its inception in 1998, vowed to continue his fight for justice and fidelity within the party.

In a detailed statement, Minister Wike lamented the ongoing crisis plaguing the PDP since the 2023 general election, attributing it to a fundamental breakdown of trust. He recounted efforts to stabilize the party, including a G5 meeting in Lagos where he directly confronted Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde about his alleged role in undermining agreements.
A subsequent expanded meeting in Abuja at Senator Bukola Saraki’s guesthouse, involving Governors Makinde, Umaru Fintiri, Bala Mohammed, and Senator Saraki, aimed to address lingering issues. Wike stated that while tensions were high, resolutions were reached, including:

  • Senator Samuel Anyanwu retaining his position as National Secretary in line with a Supreme Court judgment.
  • The withdrawal of all legal matters concerning Rivers State by the National Legal Adviser.
  • The immediate withdrawal of a suit on the state of emergency.
  • A commitment from all parties to adhere to the agreements.
Despite these resolutions, Minister Wike expressed profound disappointment, highlighting immediate violations. He revealed that Governor Makinde, in alleged collusion with Peter Mba of Enugu State, orchestrated a meeting of “South-East leaders” to demand Ude Okoye as Secretary, threatening to pull out of the PDP if their demand was not met. Wike had previously dismissed this resolution as invalid.

  • Furthermore, Wike accused Governor Makinde of orchestrating attempts to have the Deputy National Secretary act as National Secretary, in direct contravention of the agreements. He pointed to a letter from the Deputy National Secretary calling for a NEC meeting and a subsequent rebuttal, purportedly on the orders of Governors Makinde and Mba, that rejected the candidacy of the PDP’s Anambra State Governorship candidate despite it being duly signed by Senator Anyanwu and the acting National Chairman.
Minister Wike also cited the recent abortion of a well-publicized zonal elective congress in Jos on May 24, 2025, due to the invitation letter for INEC being signed by the Deputy National Secretary instead of the legally recognized signatory, Senator Samuel Anyanwu.

  • “I have painstakingly put out all these facts so that PDP members and the general public would know the truth,” Minister Wike stated. “I have been in this party since 1998 and have worked tirelessly for the survival of this party with all my strength, and it is on record that none of these persons have done anything close to what I have done to sustain this party. What is more painful is that I contributed substantially to most of these governors winning their elections, yet I have not made any personal demands on any of them and I would never do so.”

  • He concluded, “Most importantly, I had thought that we could keep the trust amongst us, but since it is now obvious that they would continue to play games to the detriment of the party, as is the case in the current debacle in the North-Central zonal elections, I have now firmly decided to pull out of all agreements hitherto reached. I have decided to fight on until justice is attained.”
