FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has announced the launch of a ‘Rainbow Coalition’ in the Federal Capital Territory, mirroring the political strategy he famously employed in Rivers State, to foster unity among newly elected area council chairmen regardless of their party affiliations.

During a meeting at his Abuja office on Wednesday, Wike hosted the chairmen who came to present their Certificates of Return issued by INEC, following their victory in the February 21 FCT area council elections. They are scheduled to be sworn in come June.

The Minister congratulated the new leaders on their electoral success and urged them to prioritize good governance. He pledged the full support of the FCT Administration, emphasizing that his doors remain open to all chairmen—whether they contested under the All Progressives Congress (APC) or the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)—under the inclusive umbrella of the coalition.

“No matter the party, what is important is that we work together,” Wike stated. “Since I came as minister, we have always worked together in the city, and that is why we have continued to achieve results… Even those from other parties who are supporting Tinubu will be part of our rainbow coalition in the FCT.”

He reminded the chairmen that their victory, bolstered by President Tinubu’s support, comes with the responsibility of delivering tangible development to residents. Wike assured them of a strong partnership once they assume office in June and also extended his best wishes to the outgoing council chairmen.
