Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, says the four Ikwerre-speaking councils in Rivers State handed President Bola Tinubu his 2023 victory.

Emohua, Ikwerre, Obio/Akpor and Port Harcourt City, he told a crowd in Emohua yesterday, supplied the numbers that clinched the election.

“Back then when people were scared to mention Tinubu’s name, we stepped out as Ikwerre sons and daughters,” Wike said during his Christmas visit. “I told you not to worry—we would win. When some said our political lives were over, I reminded them they’re not God. Only God writes finish, and He hadn’t said so.”

He added: “Look at the results. Those four councils in Ikwerreland gave Tinubu the edge he needed.”

Wike warned politicians never to write off the Ikwerre nation. “Ignore us and you ignore yourself. We stay on the map—no panic, no retreat.”

The FCT minister has been touring Rivers councils for the holidays. His swing through the state coincides with Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s recent overtures to the All Progressives Congress, a move that widens the rift between the governor and state lawmakers loyal to Wike, led by Speaker Martins Amaewhule. Though still a PDP member, Wike remains one of Tinubu’s loudest supporters and says he regrets nothing about backing him in 2023.
