A governorship aspirant of the All Progressives Congress in Taraba State and former Minister of Power, Engr. Saleh Mamman, has explained his decision to boycott a meeting convened by Governor Agbu Kefas at the Government House in Jalingo.

Speaking to journalists on Monday, Mamman said his absence was driven by concerns over neutrality, noting that the governor is also a contender in the same governorship race.

He argued that it was inappropriate for the governor to preside over a meeting involving fellow aspirants while simultaneously seeking the same office. Mamman also criticized the choice of venue, describing the Government House as unsuitable for such a gathering.

The meeting, held on May 2, 2026, brought together aspirants for various elective positions, including the State House of Assembly, House of Representatives, Senate, and governorship, to discuss the possibility of adopting consensus candidates within the party.

However, Mamman maintained that he deliberately stayed away to avoid any potential bias in decision-making.

“Since I am also in the race for the Taraba State governorship election alongside the governor, I chose to abstain from the meeting so as not to allow him preside over and possibly influence decisions against me,” he said.

The former minister also highlighted his longstanding role in the formation and growth of the party in Taraba State, insisting that he deserves recognition and respect within its ranks.

“I am one of the founding figures of the party in Taraba State. I helped bring the structure from the Congress for Progressive Change into what later became the APC. I am qualified to contest for governor based on my experience, seniority, and contributions, especially in the event of a consensus arrangement,” Mamman added.
