The Omoluabi Progressives, a political faction spearheaded by former Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola, has officially announced its withdrawal from the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a statement released on Sunday and signed by the group’s Organising and Publicity Secretary, Oluwaseun Abosede, the decision was made during a monthly meeting held in Ilesa, where stakeholders from all 332 wards in Osun State convened.
The statement outlined several grievances leading to the exit, including allegations of unjust expulsion and suspension of members without due process, as well as feelings of neglect and marginalization within the APC hierarchy. The group expressed dissatisfaction with the party’s management of internal conflicts, which they believe has adversely impacted the APC’s performance in recent elections.
The Omoluabi Progressives asserted that these issues have significantly diminished the party’s influence and popularity in Osun State. In a show of unity, members voted unanimously to seek affiliation with a different political platform ahead of the 2026 gubernatorial elections.
During the meeting, Aregbesola praised the commitment of group members to principles of integrity, character, and good governance. He encouraged them to remain resolute as they prepare the Omoluabi Progressives for future endeavors.
“This marks the beginning of a new journey towards establishing responsible leadership in Osun,” Aregbesola stated. He expressed his satisfaction with the collective decision, emphasizing the need for unity in pursuit of their goals.
“Our mission is to enhance the prosperity of our beloved state through accountable governance,” he added. “The path we have chosen is promising and filled with opportunities that will elevate Osun to new heights. It is essential to attract individuals who share our vision for righteousness and progress.”
Aregbesola assured the group that ongoing initiatives to strengthen the Omoluabi Progressives would soon yield positive outcomes. “We welcome everyone, irrespective of political, religious, or socio-cultural backgrounds. We possess the numbers, strength, and political insight necessary to provide exemplary leadership that will make Osun a model for others. With determination and faith, we shall succeed,” he concluded.
